Leadership Team

  • Rev. Stephen Bongard | Senior Pastor

    After growing up mostly in Minnesota, Pastor Steve Bongard received his Bachelor of Arts from Valparaiso University in 1985 and his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1989. After serving 5 years at Grace Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg, Florida, he served at Immanuel Lutheran Church for 26 years – 10 as Associate and 16 as Senior. He began serving at Concordia in October 2020. He and his wife, Becky, have two children. Stephanie teaches fourth grade at St. John’s Lutheran in Denver, Colorado. Nathan lives and works in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Pastor Bongard enjoys bicycling, circuit-training, running, home improvement projects, exploring St. Louis with Becky, trying to play guitar (emphasis on trying), and craft beer with friends.

  • Rev. David Meggers | Associate Pastor for Adults Ministry

    David Meggers serves as Associate Pastor for Adult Ministries. He graduated with a BS.Ed. from Concordia University St. Paul somewhere back in the late 70’s. He received his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in 1988 and also his Master of Sacred Theology degree in 1997. His first ministry career was as a Lutheran teacher in Green Bay, WI and then Norwood-Young America, MN His first pastoral call was as a church planter to Southeast Rockford, IL. This became Christ the Rock where he served for 24 years; 3 as planter and 21 as their called pastor. He is Married to Jeanette, father of Philip and Kristina, Father-in-Love of Nate Paul and Becky Meggers, and grandfather of 5 grandchildren. He enjoys the St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, playing hand drums and short term mission trips near and far.

  • Rev. Brandon Larson | Associate Pastor for Youth Ministries

    Brandon Larson serves as Associate Pastor for Youth Ministries at Concordia. He received a B.A in Organizational Leadership & Management from Concordia University, St. Paul and is a graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (M.A, A.R) and currently a PhD Student there in Reformation History. He has served congregations in Northwestern Arizona and Southern Illinois since 2011 as a pastor and has served in various ministry roles prior to this as a youth director and worship leader. He and his wife Amy have two children, Ella and Mark, and two lovably naughty dogs. Amy also runs a website called Mom Fuel aimed at equipping and strengthening Christian moms. Brandon enjoys grilling and smoking meats, playing a variety of musical instruments, reading theology & history, watching movies, and most of all spending time with his wife and kids.

  • Brendan Knorp | Director for the Worship Arts

    Brendan Knorp serves as the Director for the Worship Arts at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, MO, where he leads, plans, and coordinates traditional and contemporary worship. He earned his BA in Music and Secondary Education from Concordia University, Ann Arbor, MI. After five years of teaching music, spanish, and theology in Lutheran high schools, he discovered an even greater passion for ministry at the congregation level, which he has enjoyed since 2001. In addition to his ministry at Concordia, he has been actively involved as a performing guitarist and violist and classical guitar instructor. He and his wife, Stacy, have two beautiful daughters, Lydia and Evie. For fun, Brendan enjoys hiking, running, photography, and dangerously spicy food. He has a few silly YouTube videos and a Christmas CD which makes an excellent stocking-stuffer.

  • Deaconess Kristina Paul | Connections Coordinator

    Deaconess Kris serves as our Connections Coordinator, helping members connect with each other and to service opportunities both within Concordia and out in our community. She also leads Women’s and Children’s Ministry. She played basketball and volleyball at Drake University, graduating in 2005 with a degree in Psychology and Business. She was a social worker and part-time youth director before heading to Concordia Seminary, where she earned a MA in Practical Theology and her Deaconess Certification. She served as Director of Care and Women’s Ministries at Salem Lutheran Church and School (Affton) for over 12 years, with various coaching roles along the way. She currently volunteers on the Chaplaincy Care Committee for Lutheran Senior Services as well as the Alumni Council of Concordia Seminary. She married Nate in June of 2009, and together they have three children: Jackson (born 2012), Claire (born 2015), and Oliver (born 2017), and one large goofball of a dog named Oakley. They love Kaldi’s coffee, good BBQ, traveling when possible, and being active as a family.

  • Larry Watson | Church Business Administrator

    Larry grew up in Chillicothe, Missouri and attended the University of Missouri earning a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics. He met Carol Henrichs at Mizzou and was married in 1982 by brother-in-law Pastor Robert Henrichs and Pastor Walter Schoedel. Larry has been a member of Concordia since 1986 and has four grown children; Rob, Bryan, Jon and Anna all attending CCLS.In 2016, Larry joined the Kirk Care board representing Concordia. Kirk Care is a local food pantry and emergency utility assistance organization serving those in most need within the Kirkwood R-7 district. Over the past 3 years, as President, the organization has experienced an 80% increase in families served, 400% increase in funds raised, 50% increase in volunteer support and 300% expansion in services supporting underserved children’s educational programs. Since 2017, Larry has also served on the Citizen’s Finance Committee for the City of Kirkwood to review and provide recommendations to the City Council on the City’s operating and capital budgets for improvement opportunities.
