6th Grade - 8th Grade
All Youth Retreat
Junior Youth is for the 6-8 grade students of Concordia, their friends, and the larger community. Throughout the year we meet during different times. Weekly during the school year we meet on Wednesday nights to be formed as a community. Monthly during the school year we gather together on Friday nights for an evening called IMPACT which focuses on relationships. During the summer, we meet bi-weekly for fun and fellowship. This time lends itself to more offsite fun, special events, and service trips.
IMPACT is for 6-8 grade students. It is a monthly gathering where we play games, build community, and study God's Word. This evening is intentionally focused on relationships and building peer groups.
Our events change every month. We carve pumpkins, go skating, play bubble ball and the like. Some months we meet at Concordia and other months offsite. Regularly we take feedback from our group to see what the best actives will be. Depending on the activity, the times may change.
We invite all 6-8 graders of Concordia, their friends, and our larger community to these events. Preregistration is required so we know how to make the experience the best possible. See below for more details. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Confirmation is where we learn about God and what it means to apply our faith. We do this by reading Scripture, having fun, and building community. To help guide this process, we use the Small Catechism written by Martin Luther. This is a handbook for Christian living which details important parts of Christianity. All of what we learn is centered on our God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Our 6-8 graders meet on Wednesdays during the school year from 6:00-7:15 to grow in faith and community. We do this either digitally or in-person. All students learn in their appropriate grade from one our leaders. Then, our students break up into smaller groups to debrief about the lesson, life, and read Scripture.
Our 9th grade students finish their Confirmation process with Witness Weekend and The Rite of Confirmation. These events are celebratory in nature. It is an opportunity for both the student and the church to affirm their faith. Certainly, a faith that has been given to them many days before, but has now been given a platform and ability to articulate the gift they have been given.
Witness Weekend is where our 9th grade students share a Faith Statement. Our students craft these statements in the Fall as they share a two-minute story with the congregation about how God has used their faith in the past and how he will in the future. All these statements are grounded in God's Word.
The Rite of Confirmation is a special service for our students and their guests where the church affirms them in their learning, growth, and gifts they have been given. This is a joy filled moment. One where both the student and the church celebrate their learning.
During the Summer, we have many youth actives for our 6-8 grade students. This time of the year lends itself to outdoor events and flexible gathering times. Many of our events stay the same each year but we are always responsive to the ideas and needs of our community. Here are some of the events for our 6-8 grade students we typically offer in the Summer.
Wacky Wednesdays are bi-monthly events where we gather together. These are events internally focused on relationships. At times these are at Concordia and other times they are offsite.
Camp Trinity is a week-long camp which we invite all the youth of Concordia to attend. We play games, swim, make crafts, and grow together with God and others.
Service trips happen regularly throughout the summer for all ages. 6-8 grade students will have the opportunity to serve during the summer as well. Our trips change each year. Sometimes we take local day trips and other times they are farther away. These are opportunities to serve those around us.
The All Youth Retreat is for 6-12 grade students. It is a weekend retreat to a local camp. This is part of the scope and sequence of our Confirmation curriculum. We have team building actives, engaging lesson, worshipful moments, and even an ice-cream machine
