When we think of mercy, we think of all the pain and problems that God spares us from. Certainly, this world is broken and certainly we contribute to its brokenness. But as Christians we know God loves us despite all of this. He show us mercy because of Jesus.
As we reflect on our own lives, where have you been shown mercy from God? Where has God not treated you as you deserve but instead showed you love? Maybe it was in your youth. Maybe it was in your marriage or job. Maybe it was this before breakfast. We believe as Christians that God's mercies are new every morning.
So, this week, who can you show mercy? Maybe it is someone who is a constant thorn in your side. Maybe it is someone who you have already been kind to countless times before. Maybe it is someone you have not even met yet. The Scriptures remind us that we love because we have been shown love. And Christians also believe we are merciful because we have been shown mercy.
Please pray with me...
Heavenly Father treat us not as we deserve but treat us in kindness. Provide, strengthen, and help us to always do what you want. When we fail, forgive us. And help us to be merciful to all those we meet. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
