“I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”
Through His prophet Isaiah, God revealed the generous character of His heart with these words. They were spoken hundreds of years before Jesus tells His disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20a)
His generous character didn’t change. It doesn’t change. He gives His love generously, overflowing and lavishly for all. And He generously includes us in His saving purpose. We are to be the light. God’s saving purpose is our purpose as He calls us into partnership with Him.
Does God really need a partner? Why would He want to include imperfect, erratic, error-prone me in this partnership? How about for JOY? The author of the book of Hebrews shares this, “...let us run with endurance the race that is sweet before us, poking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross…” (Hebrews 12:1b, 2a).
God wants partners in His Joy. He values you as a partner in His work of salvation. When you find yourself in those moments where:
- You doubt your self worth: remember you are a valued partner of God.
- It seems you have no purpose: remember His purpose for you to generously share His love to the world.
Prayer: Generous Heavenly Father, thank you for making me your partner. Thank you for so generously pouring out your love to the world. Remind me of your purpose for me and give me your generous heart. Move me to purposeful generosity and make me a light shining in the darkness. Amen.
